Default Keep the 8.1 or man up and get a 6.2??

I have an 8.1 bought and paid for going into my rockbuggy that has appox 50K miles on it. I had to put a new starter on it and added a high flow MAP sensor (I think, its been a while) but other than that it is bone stock. I have been told by multiple people that by removing all the emissions and sending the computer off I can get a reasonable 400HP and 500tq out of the 8.1 but it runs out of air around 4K. All of this comes at a cost with this thing weighing a damn ton and not much aftermarket support that doesn't cost a frickin lot.

Now I come on here and the new hot motor is the L92 all aluminum 6.2. I can get similar power numbers and weigh a whole lot less with a much larger aftermarket support structure. I guess what I am asking is what would you do, switch or keep the 8.1? Both of these will be bolted up to a Turbo 400 so I would need to know what conversion (if any) would be required to make the 6.2 work in this application. Just trying to figure out if it would be worth it financially to switch or keep what I have.

Here is a picture of the project and thanks for the input.

Sweet looking project. You'll have more fun with the 6.2 and save a bunch of weight plus there are a lot more supporting mods for the LS engines over the 8.1 heavy weight.

Thanks, this has been about 3-4 years in the works. If I have time to work on it, I don't have any money to throw at it. If I have money, I don't have time. Lately, I haven't had much of either. Thanks for the compliment.

I'd keep the 8.1L. More cubes will give you more torque. The 6.2L won't even compare unless you're screaming above 5500RPM. Trust me.

So what mods are most doing with the 6.2 other than cam and computer work? Planning on doing that with the 8.1 on trying to get it to breath better. Doubtful with the head design but you never know.

as far as helping it breathe, you could probably bolt up a FAST intake to it

I was under the impression that the only people who made an intake for this motor was Raylar
