You need to find a backpressure gauge. you screw it into the precat o2 bungs.Anything over about 3 psi @2000 rpm will start killing performance.A high reading before the cat and a 0 psi reading after the cat is a cat restiction.If before and after readings are high, the muffler is clogged.

our 4.8s have a lot more low end torque and power than the 5.3. I swear the 4.8 is just a better engine all around. I don't know why because the engines are built exactly the same. Hypertech or Predator can really help both engines down low. oh by the way Fords are

the easiest way to check cat performance is to use a pyrometer to check temperature. check the temp just before the cat and just after. it should be 100 degrees higher after the cat than before it. if isn't then the cat is not working properly.
