Exhaust is already loud, I dont care if I hear the cam, but I do not want to have idle, vacuum or surging problems.

2002 Tahoe 4x4, Jakes stg4 4L80, 1800rpm stall, 4.10 on 33s

Edit: Springs are .625 lift springs, single

as for the cam, I agree with pat on the exhaust bias. my cam was speced from Geoff at EPS and it's a 226/246 .629/.629 118+4. I never would have considered that exhaust duration in the past (this is my first set of square heads)

how much boost do you think the blower will make on the 408?
Had to do a Y, only way to eliminate the Y is to put exhaust where the ABS pump is, or have the exhaust below the frame. Neither I was willing to do.

I think I found a calculator that said I would make about 7lbs on the 408.

I would have to dig deeper and run some numbers. But off the top of my head something like a 222/238 116+3

You don't need to go wild with a Tahoe if your only at 7-9psi and a 1800 stall speed

That would fall at -2 overlap @ .050 and in a 408 idle very well and should barely be noticeable.

I use Cam motion to grind mine so you can just pick whatever lift suits your setup. I am not sure how TSP does it, I know they grind their own but not sure what lobes they favor. Cam specs are like opinions, everyone has one.

True.

Thanks for looking into it! I received an email confirmation that they have shipped my stuff. So its too late to change the cam, but I did some digging and this cam is an off the shelf variant, might be easy to sell if I decide (or see on the dyno) that the short exhaust duration is hindering me.

Truck is not a drag truck. Limiter will stay on at 100mph, this truck pulls my crawler (~8klbs truck& trailer) and gets used on dirt roads. I spend more time in traffic with it than anything, sadly. So idle quality and low stall are the most important to me. And keeping it together. We intend to shift at 6200rpm as well.

I guess I will have to put it together and get it strapped in to see what she can make!

The short block has been built I think for ~2yrs, but its been sitting on the engine stand. The 5.3 hasnt died yet and I bought a Ford, then a C5; so I am bouncing around between projects

The LSA is sold, so if the 408 doesnt suffer the same fate, it will get my D1

I am sure the pistons will rock, I have a 4.0" stroke. I am expecting 40-50k out of the motor, and to use ~1qt between changes. Just the name of the game with LS strokers

I could come pick your 408 and drop it in my truck and break it in for you.

I am going to use a 3.90 stroke crank JR asymmetrical pistons and total seal gapless rings.

I still am looking for a good machine shop for the block and heads
