Years ago, I fell asleep driving home (in CT) and smashed my VW GTI into a retention wall on I-95. Since it was 3am and no one was around, I walked to my exit and called a ride. State Police looked everywhere for me, hospitals, ditches, everywhere...except my house. I was home sleeping when a friend called and said there was a Attempt to Locate (like a BOLO, but for safety reasons, not criminal) issued for me by the state police..
I'm not expert. but the last wreck I was in, I called 911. You can't just leave your car there like it has a flat or something.

Glad you made it.

One of my best buddies and I decided to take a road trip late one night. Didn't end well. We took turns driving and he must have fell asleep during his stint. We scrapped a rock wall where the road curved and rolled a few times. All I remember is waking up in the ditch thrown from the truck with my back feeling like it was on fire (crushed L1/L2)...buddy's upper body & head was crushed, died right there. Hard to believe it's been 13 years, 19 days.

You can only fight being tired for so long. What's scary is that when I was working rotating shift (days/night) there were many mornings that I made it home and didn't remember the drive! No telling how close I was to be in your shoes, or worse!

If im tired i just stop at a gas station and grab something to drink and a snack.
it helps alot if you have somebody riding shotgun and can carry on a converstion with them, keep your mind busy thinking.

I've been hit by someone sleeping and I was happy because it saved his life hitting me and not the cement barrier he was pointed right at. I've been even more carefull since then and will often pull over if I'm too tired even when coming home from work. I drink lots of Redbull everyday, but can fall asleep at the drop of a hat, even standing up. Good to hear you're ok, sucks to hear your truck is hurt.

Forgot to mention. Rolling the window down helps a bit. If its cold just turn your heater up for your body and hands, but roll the window down for the fresh air in your face.

glad to hear your ok.

when i was about 17 i was driving up north with my dad to go hunting. it was late and my dad said if your tired pull overand ill drive. i was ok when he said that so i figured i would drive some more and let him take a nap. well stupid me being a newer driver decided i would set the cruise. i fell asleep at the wheel and luckly my dad woke up as we were going over the rumble strips. we were heading right at the concrete rail they have on the start of bridges.

i do my best to not drive when im tired, but now that i think about it i can remember times recently when ive dozed off on the way to work.

defently going to pull over and get a pop or snack from now on. because your right things can change in an instant.

glad everything worked out for you, +1 on someone riding shotgun or calling someone to keep your mind busy, everytime I go cross country I find a reason to call almost everyone in the phone
