Thanks for the compliments Jim...
Considering there's no one else in Internet-land that's done fuel control with megasquirt on an LS1 (there's one guy running a big block with a crank trigger mecanism, nobody's figured out how to make the factory tach signal work until now...)
What's cool about Megasquirt? I had a guy on the phone from Miama, FL and another guy from the United Kingdom helping us out... good people on that forum who help a lot.
Someone mentioned FAST systems. One thing that is BETTER about Megasquirt is that it allows you to set your RPM adjustment points on both the spark and fuel maps. I.e., for motors with high stall converters (or auto trannies in general) it lets you, for example, set adjustments at ANY rpm you like - in Jim's case, he might want to be able to edit the map at 3800, 4000, 4200 rpms but in the lower RPM bands he can space them out farther... DFI and AEM do let you do this, as I understand it.
The software for megasquirt is VERY stable. Way better than Calmap, I've run a lot of both and can confirm this. Calmap hardly even works with a USB adapter, but since Megasquirt is supported by the boys of Open Source, those kinds of bugs have long been eliminated.
Downside of Megasquirt? It takes a commimtment, or a friend who is into electronics to build them for you, THEN figuring out how to make it work on your car... the actual tuning part is a breeze as Jim described...
Anyways, it was a blast being one of the earliest Megasquirt'd LS1s. Thanks Jim for letting me help...

Depends on if you're building it yourself or not... The ultimate cheapskate could get one done well under $200, before extra sensors, wiring, etc.
Start your journey here:
the CORRECT Megasquirt page
You can find them on Ebay every now and again, they've been going for $350-500 prebuilt, again none of those come with a wiring harness. But the instructions are great if you want to try building one yourself. It's about the same as the DIY wideband controllers.
