Installing stereo in 05 Sierra, got ?'s
#1
I want to install a Pioneer P7700 receiver into my truck. I have an 05 Sierra with the B(l)lose system. At Crutchfield's site, they say I will need an adapter to install any aftermarket stereo since I have this 'premium' factory soundsystem. The adapter is 100 bucks, and says it will keep the audible safety warnings and provides a 12 volt power source for the radio.
Now, if I'm replacing esentially everything in regards to my stereo(new headunit, amps, speakers and subwoofer), do I really need this adapter kit?
Here is what it says.
Installation Details for your 2005 Sierra
» Because your vehicle is factory-equipped with a special sound system, you will need to purchase an adapter that allows you to keep your factory door chime (needed to keep audible safety warnings functioning) and provides a switched 12-volt power source for your new radio. This adapter also allows for the use of the OnStar feature in your vehicle. (This adapter also requires that your new radio have both front and rear preamp outputs.) Crutchfield strongly recommends that you not replace this vehicle's factory radio without using a recommended adapter.
Metra VT-GMOS-04 $99.99
» If the vehicle has factory XM it will be lost if factory radio is replaced.
» Free receiver installation gear will be included with your order.
» You'll get free lifetime tech support for as long as you own your gear!
Has anyone replaced their factory bose stereo system? What did you have to do different from a normal install. Also, I do not have OnStar, so I wouldn't need an adapter for that.
My last question is, I have XM, but I want to install Sirius(had it in my 300C, and for my musical tastes, Sirius is much better for me). Can I run the wiring for the Sirius tuner to the XM antenna or do I really need to use the antenna that comes with the Sirius tuner?
Thank you!
Steve

You dont have to buy that harness if you dont want the door chimes.. You can take a regular metra 992003 and find a 12 volt power source for the radio. I would then run new speaker wire to your new speakers straight from your amps.. most of the time you can tie in behind the factory radio but in your case the factory radio will go straight to the bose amp which you dont want.. We just did my friends 05 with bose for about 30 bucks in parts (Dash Kit, Harness, Antenna Adapter). It can be done

It was so easy to do this on my 02 2500HD. I may try to attempt this, but then again, I might try to find a local installer once I've bought all the stereo stuff.
So if I just do without the chimes, I'll still get the message display?
What I'd probably do is run the front speakers and the sub off of the same
amp and power the rear speakers off of the headunit. I did this on the HD
and the volume was great and undistorted. I ran 2 channels to the front speakers and the other 2 channels to the one sub.
