Default Im thinking of abandoning mobil 1, what do you guys think

Well i hit the 3000 mark on my new engine and i went to get some mobile 1 full synthetic. Im runing 20-50 dino oil in there right now for break in and was going to run 15-50 after break in in full synthetic. Well there is no more regular mobil 1 15-50 on the shelves, it has been discontinued. They only make it in the extended life stuff and im skeptical of it because its new to the market. I think i might go with royal purple since i can get it at a bunch of local stores or maybe amsoil if i can find it in town.. What do you guys think

I dont know anything about any of them, but I switched to Mobil 1 when I put the blower on and I will continue to use it. Im not sure if Mobil 1 does anything spectacular, but it has a very loyal following.

I would be very interested in an oil analysis after a few oil changes.

I don't know if this has anything to do with why you guys run the oil you do, but I'll throw it out there any way. I couple of years ago, I worked for a NASCAR Craftsman truck series racing team, and we where sponsored by Citgo Motor oil. Can you guess what kind of oil we ran in are trucks??? That's right, Citgo, and not some special synthetic, only available to special people oil either. We ran the same 20w50 and 10w30 (for qualifying) that you can buy off the gas station shelf for a $1.19 a quart. This was in 750 HP NA Racing engine that saw 9500 RPM on short track, and we never had any motor failures do to any oil problems. Just thought I would share that with you.

i think im gunna go buy one more of the older mb1, then go and get me some of that 15k stuff, mb1 has me sold...

the reason they have me sold is because my friend had a 99 pontiac grand am gt v6, he ran into a ditch causing it to shatter the tranny case (4t40 trannys are the lowest thing on those cars their the most common thing to go in a wreck or a speed bump) shattering the oil pan, the car ran probly at least 20 mins with out oil....he was running mb1....

funny part about all this is when at the body shop about 4 days later they knew the car was gone so they decided to turn the motor over it ran for 5 mins the clunk lock

You ought to go to the LS1 internal engine section or doa search on German made Castrol. A whole lot of the LS1 guys are using it! You can find it at the normal parts stores most of the time. Do a search there is alot of info, comparisons, and conversations on this stuff. Alot are switching from Mobil-1
It would be worth checking out!

I second that... I was never a fan of M1... and after what I read up in the Internal section... well, I've been sold on the German Castrol stuff for a little while now. I'm one who never cared for synthetics, too.

1 vote for AMSoil, I've love their motocross racing oils, but I'm to cheap to use fancy oil in my truck, valvoline for me!

You don't need to be using such a heavy oil.
in that engine you don't need more than 10w30 unless you have a power adder and then you might need 10w40.

Using 20w50 or 15w50 is not providing better protection and it is costing you performance.
