How are you guys priming the oil system in your new motors?

There is a engine pre-lube tool we use here at the dealer, but only for rebuilt engines we put back together, even though we put pre-lube on all the bearings, cam, lifter, etc....Really, you will be alright putting it together, letting that oil filter fill p as long a possible before you spin it on, then pull the plugs, and crank it over for a few seconds. How about this. The GM REMAN engines we put in cars and trucks around here have dates on them from being one to two years old. And we fill and fire. They are ran at the reman place first. So why is it such a big deal not to fire it up?

A very light film of oil on bearings will last longer than you think. I've probably built 40 engines over 15 years and primed maybe 10 of those. I've never had a pre-mature bearing failure. Moregrip used some pressurized pump hooked up to the oil system but i've never seen anyone go more above and beyond the std for building an engine....If they made it for it, he bought it.
How about pouring oil in the oil pressure sensor hole in the back of the block (it is the high point) and turning it over by hand while filling. I'd make sure the engine is tilted forward so air can escape better.

I pre-lube my bearings with assembly lube(Melling) thats thick like honey when I put a motor together.......that should last long enough till oil pressure comes up, I coat everything with that stuff. Ive never had a problem.
