I was at the local performance parts store here in houston and the guy there said he can get me a 6.0 for 3 grand flat, brand new, i got there all the time to get my parts so he gives me deals, i asked if it was a LQ9 or a LQ4, he said he wasnt sure but he said he did know that they are from escalade engines, the escalades have the LQ9 correct? he said the way he tells if its a escalade or VHO engine is the wires over the spark plugs to the blaster coils, he said the escalade has grey wires and the VHO has blue wires, so does anybody know how to tell if its a LQ9 or LQ4 and also is it true about the grey wires being on a Escalade? lemme know fellas thx

 

That's BS, the only differences between an LQ9 and a LQ4 are the pistons and connecting rods.

 

Not for sure about the wires, but when I replaced my factory stockers with some more stockers they were grey. The only difference I know of between the two is LQ9 has flat top pistons, while the LQ4 has dished pistions.

 

take a plug and shine a light in there and you will see

 

The engine blocks are the same part number- 12551365. So i guess you should pull the head to find out. Anybody got any other ways to find out cuz i dont wanna get screwed if i have to buy one.

take the plugs out and shine a light down in there first and see if you can see the pistons

 

So if there dished then its a LQ4 and if there flat then its a LQ9 is that correct? And also, what plugs? The plug wires from the spark plugs? Thx

 

Spark plugs so you can see in the cylnder. Get someone to rotate the crnak till you see the piston and if it has a little dish then it is an LQ4 if it is flat its an LQ9 I have both kinds of pistons sitting in the shop Ill take a pic today and post it up tonight for you so you can see exactly what ur looking for
