Thanks guys, my truck only has 38k on it, but I have seen what that Dexcool does after awhile, I was just making sure. I think I will wait to change when I do the cam swap this christmas....

I've got about 120K on mine (I think ) I'm changing it again this weekend though for the winter and the 1500 mile drive I'm about to make. I topped it off with fresh when I did the cam, that was in Feb.

Hey bro, I agree with you on the Dexcool. Here at my shop, I've seen Dexcool eat those aluminum radiators up for the past 5 years now. The Dexcool has some sort of caustic element in it and reacts bad to the aluminum.

I have already converted mine over to the Low Silicate kind and did away witrh the Dexcool. I highly reccomend it.

I have never heard of that, where do you get it. Does it react bad with Dexcool? If so how do you completely flush out the Dexcool. Thanks

I heard that the original Dexcool was problematic and caused alot of issues in the 4.3 V6's, but it has since been reformulated. I left my original coolant in my truck for 5 years (which was less that 40K for me), and replaced it somewhere between 30 and 40K. The stuff that came out looked brand new, as did the coolant passages and radiator which I examined during my cam swap (around 37K).

We have a coolant system flush & re-fill machine here but.....if you don't

Go to a parts store and get you a couple of cans of pressurized Radiator Flush and flush your Radiator out.

The just re-fill with GM Coolant part # 12378560.

It's also a lot cheaper than a $18.00 gallon of Dexcool
