How much heat to kill a coil???
#1
We often get the question, "Won't the coils bake in there?"

We always reply ( like this ), "No, our test vehicle wore them for months in the summer without malfunction etc,etc..."
We want to be able to put peoples fears to rest, so we decided to try and kill some coils. We used an oven to bake the them at varying temperatures starting at 200 deg. F:
The coil was baked for 30 minutes, then the temp was raised another 50 deg:
We kept raising the temperature and forgetting about them for 30 min or so:
Had it set for 400, but by the time we got back from lunch it was almost pegged:

When the coils reached nice, round temp marks we pulled them from the oven (with a welding glove ; ) and hooked them up to our LQ9 escalade.
Look, I figured out how to work the camera:
...And couldn't get a misfire or CEL if we tried.

There is a reason some of them have heat syncs on them.
