Default how much gas does your tahoe drink??

my tahoe seems to be getting what i think is bad mielage. talking like 13 on the highway. where my cammed ls1 silverado got 20. what give? i just changed the oil. its got synthetic now. took out the ole dino oil it had from the dealer. not sure if the fuel filter has ever been changed. its got 52000 miles on it. not even sure if the 04's have filters my 04 silverado didn't have one. haven't changed plugs either. i've only had it for 3000 miles now so not sure what it may need. filter looked clean. regular paper filter, i didn't want to change it yet because i plan on going turbo and didn't want to waste the money buying a k&n and then just replacing it later. so what might i need to change. oh yeah its also full time 4wd not auto track either.

Default Mileage concerns

That is poor mileage. What is your rear gear ratio? What is your engine size?
I returned from Michigan yesterday and got 18.2 MPG traveling 75 mph for the entire 516 mi trip including 4 people and all our luggage. That is with all the mods in sig and a recent cam change. You might try a Nelson tune over your stock tune. Have you checked your plugs? Sounds like it is running pig rich. I didn't know AWD was available on the Tahoes'. I thought only the
GMC Denali lineup came with AWD. 14 mpg around town driving isn't to bad for such a heavy truck with AWD. The mileage on all my vehicles drops noticeably this time of year from all this cold weather and short trips.

its an odd year, 04 was the only year they did it i guess. hard to find answers for the transfer case thng. any way it a 5.3 with 3.73. i tuned it myself as i did my silverado. getting +/-3 on fuel trims. and its actually lean at wot. trying to fatten that up now. tires are 265/70r17's i think. what ever stock size is. there bigger than my stock silverado tires by about an inch or more. spark plugs look like stock ones might be those. it does seem to idle alittle ruff i think. its got a little shimmy to it sometimes at idle.

My 2003 5.3 Z71 hoe with a whipple has an average of right on 16mpg for the past 25k miles. Thats a 50-50 mix of freeway and city traffic, and a somewhat heavy foot taking off from stops. Freeway usually gets ~18 depending on speed.
