Default How much does an engine rebuild cost?

I know that I probably don't need one, but I was curious.

It's a 5.3 LM7.

And what is involved in an engine rebuild.

just depends... what kind of rebuild do you want to do? new pistons/rods, or just refresh the stock motor?

rod and main bearings, cam bearings, piston rings is about all you need. you're looking at ~$250-300 for that plus the labor. if you're going to have it apart I'd go ahead and throw good bolts in it top to bottom.

would i notice a difference in how it runs/power gains?

I'm not looking for anything big, but would it be worth it to do it now so I might have a longer engine life?

around here you can get a used one with warranty for $450. it comes with some extras you can sell off like intake, tb, exhaust manifolds, coil packs... probably around $100 worth of extras you can sell off. also the 5.3 you have now would be worth something. probably end up being into it for around $300 in the end.

that would make sence if you hurt your stock motor and were looking for a stock replacement. if yours is running ok then no you wouldn't see any gains from freshening it up.

damn, well that just about answers my question. Next thing i need to take care of is my tranny issues. It's starting to get sloppy under WOT. It's almost unnoticeable with regular driving, but when I get on it, the 1-2 shift is getting a little wobbly/slow. And my converter is going out also.

I see about $2000 going towards a FLT soon

OO, I didn't notice you're in my area. I can probably help you out on a rebuild if you get ahold of me we can talk about it. Parish, we can't get 6.0s down here that cheap. how about you get me one and ship it down here and I'll send you the cash!

Cool Klive, where at in DFW?

Also, I have found used 5.3 complete engines for like $650 or around there at American Auto Salvage in Ft. Worth.
