Default How to make my truck show MPG figures in real time??

I have an 06' Silverado with the steering controls that will allow me to view MPG figures. However,it only shows an overall view, not real time.

My friend has an 04' 2500HD that will display both real time, and overall figures.

Is there some combination of buttons I need to press? Or is this option just not avalible on the newer trucks?

i always wondered, if the trucks that dont have this function, are actually wired for it, and are just not included. (example would be like, the trucks without the tranny temp guages are wired for it, just dont have it..) thus meaning, if you replace wherever your MPG readout is, with one out of a truck that does have it. it would work? sorry if this dosnt make sence..

I asked my dealer's parts guy (he's good, lol) if a cluster swap would get me that function and he said no. My '03 had it, I was thinking a retro-swap would fix it.

Couldn't you just reset your overall mpg counter every time you fill up? Not sure if that's even possible!

if it doesn't have the option for instant. just reset it while driving and it will show you instant until it starts to average.

Yeah, you can do that, I would just like to see how it fluctuates while pulling a trailer in real time.

Also, I found out that they stopped that option on the 06's.

Probably after some 2500HD owners with the 6.0 had a heart attack after seeing what that joker sucks going up a hill pulling 5klbs.
