By law though, dealerships are supposed to be able to prove a modification caused the failure.

The law also states that the vehicle doesn't necessarily have to be repaired by the dealership. You could have it done by a certified shop and still have it covered under your warranty.

I did a bit of research on the matter so I small amount of knowledge on the matter.
this is what I tell customers debating this since Ive been a tech at dealer level for over 11yrs. You know who says if a mod caused the failure? ME the tech working on your car, and as has been pointed out many times. We get the shaft on warranty repairs and if the dealership mngt condones pushing no warranty with mods, then the techs will see it as ok to do this too, wether right or wrong. I mod anything I own, I want to enjoy it and enough is never enough. I also work alot with customers, and if you refer to me as working at a stealership, are a Ahole etc Im not going to help you one bit. many people wont. I had an issue with getting my diff that blew up in my truck by Nissan cause Im modded and although it took a few days longer...I NICELY talked to the service manager, expressed my point with threats and he covered it the following day. The biggest problem was the warranty auditir was at the dealer when i towed the truck in...But otherwise most dealers want to have a good relationship with their customers for repeat business, refferals etc...the manufacturer has no idea if the bad trans came out of a stock truck orone thats heavily modded only the tech really does,,,soif you think there ever might be an issue..get to know 1 person, ahve them only work on your truck and tip well, you might be surprised at what most of us would do to help you out.......
