How do you decipher date code on block?

That's what prompted me to look, I was verifying that my motor was an '04 so I knew what headbolts to buy. It's a good way to verify what the seller is trying to sell you and what you KNOW about it. So jim bob redneck tries to sell you a 20K mile 6L out of a 2006 2500 truck, you look at the date code and clearly can tell it's an 02 block. You know it's not Kosher.
