Default Honda Rebel

Anyone got one, have experience with one. I went and looked today at them. I can get one for 75 bucks a month including the first year's insurance. I figure at 250cc, a 2 gallon tank should last at least a couple of weeks.

Opinions ?

Great beginner bike, or use as daily transportation...

Let someone else take the depreciation hit and buy a used one from a private owner...

My wife started on a nighthawk 250... great machine... bought it for $1K, had for 6 months, sold it for $1.2K... she loved it, light, nimble, easy to ride...

Now she rides a HD Dyna Low rider...

I'd rather be seen riding Starr Jones than a Honda Rebel.

The salesman is trying to convince me to step up a notch to the Shadow VLX. If I go through with it, I think that's what I'll do. He said I should get ~40 mpg on that, and no telling what on the Rebel.

Go with the Shadow. I had a 96 1100 ACE and it ran good and got close to 40mpg. You would regret getting the 250. Bigger is better you won't regret it.
It had a 5 gal fuel tank too.

A Buell Blast can get 70mpg:

I would rather be seen on a blast, then on a rebel, but get what you feel comfortable with.

THIS gets 40+ miles per gallon too...and it's more fun than a Rebel or Shadow. It might be for sale as well.

If you do any freeway riding at all, I wouldn't recommend the 250. It simply lacks good power to merge and/or put you where you wnt to be in a hurry if it ever becomes necessary. If you want something a bit more sporty, see if you can find a used Suzuki GS500. They are very cheap and can at least handle the freeways. Be sure whatever you get, you invest in some safety gear. Helmet, gloves, boots, jacket. When buying a helmet (and this stirs up debates) go with something that has a Snell rating.
