Default Higher Octane??

Octane booster....**** works?? Will it raise 93 to at least 100 octane?? And is that hard on a pretty much stock motor? Just curious before I try it to get rid of some knock and pinging...?? Thanks

No it will raise to 93.7 but it might just be enogh to get rid of the ping it did on my aztek so i would think it shouuld come down on the ping.

i used some octane booster a few times, i couldnt really tell what it did, seemed better but im sure it was one of those mind things, if you get one be sure its rated for off-road use only or it wont be as strong as the others out there... its a waste of money unless you are planning to run some nitrous on a certain tank of gas or you have pinging and such for octane is needed for somethings to work properly but will not benfit other things not tuned accordingly. for example, if you have an 87 octane tune, you will not get any more power out of it with 93

Torco racing fuel concentrate works pretty good,it will make up to 104 octane if you mix in enough concentrate. It's expensive about $18 a can, which mixed with 20 gal of 93 octane will yeild 97 octane unleaded racing fuel.Or you can go to the local paint store and buy a 5 gal container of toulene for about $25 and mix the 5gals with about 25gals of 93 octane for the same 97 octane. With the toulene,it's probably a good idea to add a small amount of lubricant.

STP and all of that other crap for octane booster doesn't work. It your vehicle is pinging you need to do regular maintenance if stock CP/Timing. Seafoam, etc. You have carbon build up on the pistons, (hot spots) Most people use xylene or toulene as a octane booster, works great, but kills the 02s, cats. It's leaded, but 117/110 octane rating.

seems like that toulene stuff would be like pouring paint thinner in your tank and just trying to even it out with some oil.

It shouldn't have much build up, it only has 20,000 miles on it...And its not a constant ping, just sometimes under wot...

Just go to a track and put a gallon or two of 110 octane in, that should, uhhhh, bump it up. IT won't burn the fuel completely, but it'll raise your octane...
