Talking Help with my chevy 454!!!

hi i just recently bought a Chevy 454 big block engine in hopes of putting it into a 70 chevelle.
the guy i bought it from inform me that the engine came out of a mid 80's dually truck. Besides that i really don't know anything else about the engine, i have tried doing some research with the engine casting number but to no avail. On the actual block i noticed it had 7.4 liter. I was hoping if yall would be kind enough to give me a little bit more information on the actual engine & maybe some advice on how i could transformed it from a low hp high torque engine to a respectable muscle car engine. The engine casting number i
believe is this
"T0503UBA" or "T0503UB4"
i cant tell if the last digit is a letter or number. Thank you for your time, your patience, and your information.

It's probably a Mark-IV big block. The number of aftermarket performance parts available for this will blow you away.
I would suggest converting it to a roller cam and valvetrain with a pair of aluminum heads and matching intake manifold. The carburator on it will be too small for that. It would be good to find out what volume the pistons are to figure out the compression. The stock heads probably have a large volume open-chamber, not optimal for horsepower.
Fix the restictive intake and heads. add a mild cam and you can expect 450HP.

Convertering a flat-tappet cam to a roller cam requires new roller lifters. These will be a different height than stock so it will need pushrods too. The heads need to have springs that will support the rpm range of the came and guides that will support the lift of the cam. A set of rockers witht he right ratio for the cam will also be needed. All this stuff has to work together and the pushrods have to be measure for to get the right contact pattern on the valvestems. "Valvetrain" means all this stuff selected to work together.

This is a tall deck block which means you have a 4 ring piston, and there roughly the same design as the 502. So go with a classic poke and stroke for atleast 496 ci. Running it in the the stock 454 would just be a waste becouse of the pistons. By going with the stroke you get a good choice of pistons that are just not available with the stock stroke in the truck block. Car Craft did a motor up like this and got tons of horsepower, and they also did a cylinder head comparison so you can check it out.

Get Edelbrock Oval Port heads and the performer RPM cam.

Great Horsepower, Long on torque, and driveable with minimal maintance.
