Honestly it really doesn't matter which tech school you go to (UTI or WYOTECH) I grad. from UTI Phoenix. What you put into the school is what u get out, Peroid. Your main objective is kepping your grades up in school and having excellent attendance, I think you need like a 98.5% attandence rate to get into the better grad. programs. The best grad. programs to get into are Mercedes and BMW. I went to BMW STEP in Orlando, FL. The tech schools are a joke compared to what you will learn in the grad. programs. I'm now 21 working for a BMW dealership making 70,000 per year.

Must be nice...I'll have a bachelors in less than a year and probably make half that being a graphic designer

I thought about going through UTI+BMW or Mercedes after I graduate.....maybe I'll consider it if I'd get paid that much

Being a tech for a high end manuf. such as Mercedes or BMW you have the potential to make over 100g per year depending on how effecient you are. I know quite a few techs doing it. Their warranty pay compared to Chevrolet or Ford has alot to do with this. On the other hand if your lazy and not on top of your game you wont' make much at all.

I think Wyotech and SAM would be your best bet. Wyotech has a little more variety, but SAM is definitely one of the top auto schools around. Couldnt go wrong with either in my opinion.

funny u should ask
i just started monday at UTI here in cali. i have leard quite a few things already...and today i tore down my 1st engine.
but like Procircuit155 said, your not gunna succeed if u dont try. your gunna be doin oil changes at some shop. i say this because i already see students slacking off and comming in tardy. and this school is very strict, like someone here said....98% attendance and 3.0 and up GPA to qualify for a graduate program, and there is where the cash is. i am takin this very seriously cuz im payin VERY much to be there.

Have you ever considered engineering? I ALMOST went to Kettering (used to be GMI) in Flint, MI (**** hole) and got a BS in automotive engineering. There are a few schools where you can get a degree in auto eng. I chose to go to the U of A here and just get a mechanical eng. degree, as not to limit myself, but it all applies! I will be graduating in May and I hope to get a job in the automotive field, but if I don't, I think I'll go insane....hehehe.

Anywho, I love working on cars, but I would rather be at the heart of designing and improving them. If you feel the same, then you need to engineer! Just something for you to think about, your options are endless Good luck!

I really appreciate all of the suggestions because this is really important to me. I'm leaning towards SAM more and more. However, doesn't SAM just deal with Carbed induction? Even though they have some great LS1 F-bods, if you look under the parts of the cars they had someone tune the PCM for them, I would've though the students at SAM would tune. Slack off at automotive school?? There's no way in the world!! I would make sure I was the #1 student in the class. I'm not lazy at all, in fact I worked around 60 hours per week during the summer working 2 jobs. Work doesn't bother me, and if it was working on cars it's not considered work, it's considered an "experience".
Thanks for the replys!
