I've worked on some boards that have been hit. You can change chip after chip(this was small-to-medium-scale-integration stuff) and maybe get it to work but not know for how long. The amount of damge it can do (or did) is very hard to determine. Good thing she has the coverage.

Yeah, I can't fix it for what her deductable costs. I would be chasing my tail with a DMM for days. It'll be at O'Reiley's tomorrow, so keep your fingers crossed.

Any guess as to what the final bill will be?

Dang I'd hate to have that happen. My friends dakota was struck by lightning one time. It fried everthing and blew out all four tires.
