hey guys i need your help.
my truck is a 04 escalade ext and i have been geting some a/c problems.
this just started happening about a week ago and it has only happened a few times.

wife gets in it to go shopping and both temp dials are on 60f but the 2 drivers vents and burning hot like the heat is on and when i turn the drivers dial to hot it just gets hotter and when i put it back to 60f its still very hot but the passenger side is cold like it should be.

second problem is that the a/c is not as cold as it should be or as cold as it was wile im driving its fine but the second i stop or sit in traffic its not really cold but if i put in in nutral or park and give it some gas its fine.

my buddy had a a/c problem with his 03 avalanche and some sort of sensor wires got burnt/melted and he was having simular problems.

can you guys help?

 

Drivers side temp actuator is probably bad and you may need a recharge to get you a/c cold again. These vehicle are also known to dis-engage the clutch at idle if the rpms drop just a little low. A dirty throttle body can cause your rpms to drop.(I see this more than you would imagine)

 

ok ill pull the tb of and clean it im shure it needs it any way(85k miles)
the clutch fan had been making noise at start up and once in a wile wile driving and this just started a few weeks ago it sounds like a big rig taking off then once i start driving its fine but when i slow down it will start again.

i also noticed when it started acting up today i turned the drivers side **** to 90 like i wanted the heat on and it dident make much difference in the temp.

as for it being charged i had a friend check out the level and it showed good and i also checked it and it showed good level..

another thing that might help figure it out is that the recirculation button automaticly turns on by it self.

 

Ive had a similar issue too. The AC charge is good, maybe even a little too much. When I get in and start it up I have the temp set to 60 an at max AC. The vents blow out warm air until I get going then all is good.

 

No need to remove the TB to clean it, but its definately a potential cause. You can both do a basic fan clutch test by wathching the fan while a friend turns the truck off. If the fan keeps turning for more than a second or two it has become too loose and won't move enough air over the condensor at idle(Shaun, the noise you described sounds too tight rather than too loose). Also check and see if the compressor clutch is engaging at idle in Drive with the parking brake engaged.

 

the fan sound is like a roar and when my truck had factory warranty the service mgr at a gm dealer where i got the truck said that noise was a common problem but i honestly can remember what he told me about it that was close to 4 years ago.

i had the truck started in park and the clutch was engaging but i dident try it in drive.

 

the noise from the fan is probably just the clutch fan engaging

 

ok here is an update.
when i turn the truck off with the a/c on the fan stops at the same time.

this "roar" sound is some thing new i mean i would do it once in a great wile but now its almost constant but it does go away after i tack it up a few times.

i was driving it now and the a/c was blowing cold then i tryed to start geting warm the went back to ice cold.

 

Fan clutch may not be disengaging but it isn't your problem unless its dragging your idle rpms down too low. Have you done anything else to it yet?

 

I would be looking at the A/C Cycling switch and a blend door calibration. I don't think the fan clutch is your problem. Also if the RPM's are too low the PCM will not allow the compressor to engage.
