I know that trick for the LT1, with the resistor in the key, so you can get a regular key made, but I haven't heard of it for the trucks.

And if its only a remove and replace process, then the claim makes no sense, but if they did some real damage to the wiring and the column needs to be rewired, then it might be a good idea.
