That's the hard part...they're expensive to buy, so you have to find someone that's willing to lend you one, like a friend at a dealership or a shop...

Just take a sparkplug out and shine a light in the hole.

From earlier, Joshua, I gotcha.

I'm thinkin somewhere here. Could they have lied? Nahhh.

That boroscope is a few bucks. If u can't see inside bore w/. light, & the curiousity is killing you, pull heads. More work tho. Heck of a lot cheaper than that "scope."

OP, I've got a really good Q:
What if it's a 4.8 or 5.3? Then what?

Cause if your lookin to get your $ back, well fine.

What are your realistic goals? Or do u just wanna mod it?

It's real easy to swap a fan shroud, and an air box...the truck has obviously been whored with, so who know's what the hell's in it. Check the vin just to see what it originally came with, then go to Harbor Freight and get a cheapie bore scope like MrGoodwrench3 mentioned, and see what kind of pistons are in it (or buy a head gasket and bolts and pull a head). This thread is useless until you do that, and is starting to get annoying...I feel a lock coming on...

If you know someone with HPT or EFILive they can hook it up to the OBDII port and tell you the size of the motor as well.
Or throw it on the dyno and tell us what it makes, that would be easy enough to decide what it is.
