ok as lame as this sounds, we put on a bug shield on the new 03 duramax 3/4 ton truck and when driving down the road at highway speed, we hear this annoying crackling from the passenger side piller area. figured this was the bug shield either causing turbulance or rattling. this is the kinda that jsut requires four screws into factory existing holes under the hood. real easy fast install. when we took off the shield, the sound was gone. not real surprising as i have heard it before. what can i do to not get this what i think is turbulance causing a crackeling sound?
TIA!
TIA!

the little piece of plastic that is the windshield cowl at the hood arm is what is rattling.i put some silicone under mine and let it dry. then reinstalled it and the noise is gone

I had the exact same problem
I put a bug shield on - afterwards I got this flapping sound at the windshield - drove me nuts....
I figured out what it is
On the hinges - it a rubber shield/protector
They slap up against the bottom of the hood.
Sounds like a wind noise, or air leak, or weatherstrip noise -
Take the protectors and trim them so they dont hit the bottom of the hood

The rubber seal around the windshield could be making the noise too. Put some silicone or double-sided tape down the part that runs from the cowl to the roof on each side.

When I had a bug shield, the noise was from the rubber seal on each side of the windshiled. I got a tube of black sealicone adhesive and put a bead of each under the seal. I went from the top of windshield to the bottom on each side, the seal will press the adhesive out some, DON'T WIPE IT OFF. Just let it dry and then use a razor blade to remove it, wiping it off when it's wet makes a hell of a mess, I learned that the hard way.

I feel you pain
I picked my new truck up
and put a shield on right away - under 150 miles
and the noise happened right away
I ended up driving on the highway with my face against the glass - trying to figure out what the hell.
I drove it at night - with a maglight and then finally figured it out....
