Has anyone replaced hood hinges with retracting gas shocks?

I had to remove my hinges and would like to use gas shocks like a corvette or grand prix does but I don't even know where to start.

get some buick century (i think thats the model from like the early 90's) hinges, and suicide the hood

You could always use one of those rods that fold up to hold the hood up.
