Default Guys with 3.42s, gas mileage when towing?

We re planning a 1000 mile trip in March. Just trying to figure out how much gas it ll take. I ll be hauling about 4000-4500 including us. I think it be the majority highway with very few hills. So, what do you guys avg towing?

Brad

around where i live, i can pull a load bout like this with 30gals of gas, tools, and a bunch of extra clothes.. usually its a grizzly on the back. and i usually get 16.5-17mpg with 5 guys in the truck... and thats with tow/haul and taking it easy.. thats 4 atvs, about 2400lbs plus what ever the trailer weighs, Not sure about it, me and my brother built it..

It ll be me and my wife, 2 kids, 4 atvs. (grizzly, kodiak 400, polaris 700 and a foreman) I m guessing the trailer weighs 1200-1500. That could be off, its a dual axle open trailer. Plus whatever else, tents, sleeping bags, etc. Man I would be thrilled if I got 15 mpg.

So are you takeing the Forman to pull the polaris and grizzly out of the woods when they break?

Every time I go out rideing with my buddys I either end up towing out the Grizzly or 700 Praire. We do alot of mud and deep water, and those belt drives cant take it. They start slippin and over heating.

You should get a 3-4mpg drop with that weight and 3.42's. Still pretty good milage.

No the women ride the foreman.

If ya ll are going that deep they need to snorkel em. I havent had any trouble with the belt on my grizzly yet and I ve been in water up to the bottom of the headlights. Once water gets over the racks, then yes water will get into the tranny. But thats an easy fix to, mine has a plug on the side of the tranny, pull it out, drain the water and be on the way. On my kodiak, we just stand it up on the end, unhook the intake and drain the water, and on our way. No reason at all you should have to pull them out of the woods, unless someone doesnt drain the water and smokes the belt. Kawai and suzuki have the worst auto/belt tranny out there. Yamaha is the best, polaris next. I have roughly 700 miles on mine and my buddy has bout 1200 on his.

The only problem I have is getting mud caked in the radiator and causing it to over heat. Of course this only happens when I spend alot of time playing in the deep mud. I can fix it with a different radiator but havent had the money to do it.

I can live with 15 mpg. Where I tow now, there are alot of hills and mountains and my gas mileage drops down to like 10-12.
