Well, looks like at least the oil pan has to come off...got LOTS of metal trace in the oil. Most likely culprit is a bearing on it's way south.

Still haven't decided if I'm going to rebuild this engine or get an assembled stroker or even a stroker rotating assembly for this block. Just depends on what I can get by with fixing for the moment.

Here's some of the results for those interested. My numbers are first, then an LS1 T/A with "normal" oil after the slash:

Iron 40/26
Nickel 1.4/0.5
Chromium 2.9/0.9
Titanium 0.2/0.1
Lead 47/7.3

Those are just the ones that Patrick (thanks again!) mentioned as standing out.

Damn it man! Looks like me and you will both get bad news on our LS1's Todays and both of them regarding the lower end.

Have you priced what just a rebuild and forged parts would cost? If it were me, I would give the nod to a new shortblock if possible. You are the second to have a problem with that motor. That suck man. Luckily you arent in too deep on that motor if I recall. Something like $500 or so??

That was the purchase price...I have about $2k total in the rebuild, but that's including ARP fasteners, injectors, EDIT, etc.

I just hope the crank isn't messed up...I'd absolutely hate to have to get a new one, especially one with a little more throw.

Damn, I see your point. To wak away from 2K just a couple months after you dropped it would be pretty rough, but to dump more into it and have another problem down the road when you could have gotten a new stroker.... now that would **** me off!
At least you have a good attitude about it. Ive had to have frequent attitude adjustment by my girl recently while going through this mortgage and buying process.
Good luck with it man. If youve got the moeny or even the plan of doing a stroker in the future, now would be the time to do it!!
