There is a do-it-yourself brewery up here near me - the "complicated pots" (can't think of the real name of them right now) that you mix the ingredients in and bring to a boil and all of that, all have beautiful welds like this.

The guy that runs the place caught me spacing out at them while some friends and I were making a batch... He was a motorhead too - he understood.

I agree. Those welds were made with a machine called a positioner. It spins the pipe so you can stay in the best spot to make a slick weld. We have 10 of them at the fab shop that I work at. Not taking anything away from the guy. You can also tell by the size of the pieces. If it doesn't have long offsets or crazy bends, then it is welded like I said above, which is the easiest and best way. Otherwise, it is welded in place without rotating the pipe, a little more difficult.
