Flo Pro Install 2004 Silverado VHO
#1
I wanted to step up the exhaust slightly on my '04 VHO. Based on the excellent input I received on this forum, I was informed that the OEM exhaust system flows pretty well... exept for the factory muffler. Therefore since that was the restrictive link, I decided just to upgrade the muffler. Also based on the advice I received here, I selected a Flo Pro 2505. I wanted to gain a little HP and hopefully a tiny bit of fuel economy while adding a little exhaust note. I didn't want something loud that would get annoying on long hauls or attract the wrong kind of attention, and both board members and the folks at Flo Pro told me this was the right muffler to get.
I gave the new muffler a couple coats of ceramic paint and took the truck over to DB Rods in Taylor. Going to a full on fabrication and build shop for a muffler swap is overkill, but Jon is a friend and his craftsmanship is second to none.
The 2505 was supposed to be a "direct fit" but we all know that phrase is like "military intelligence". Well, it ALMOST was.
The back mated up perfectly:

On the front, the inlets were larger than the factory exhaust pipes.

Not a show stopper. Jon quickly cut a couple adapter rings from exhaust pipe he had on hand and was able to bridge the gap.

Unfortunately I got to BS'ing with the members of our crew that were hanging out at the shop and did not take pictures of the final welds. Like all of Jon's work, they are beautiful.
Truck now has a deeper and slightly more pronounced exhaust note but nothing obnoxious. It would be hard to feel SOTP the 10 or so HP I may have picked up, but damn, I think it pulls a little stronger! Driving home on the toll road, I also noticed that at cruising speed there was just the slightest increase of noise in the cabin. I had to deliberately listen for it. Perfect score. I'm definitely happy with the muffler swap.
