Good idea or bad idea: '96 Yukon GT 2 dr?
#1
Since I don't know anything GM trucks, just wondering what your thoughts were on a '96 Yukon GT 2 dr 4x4. It has 61K miles, the price is around $10,500 (what I offered). A 50's year old lady has owned it since new, the truck is quite nice and is garaged, nice looking monochromatic maroon paint, tan leather, GT model. Is the 5.7 Vortec a good motor, or does it have problems? Is it easy to work on? Any oil leak, electrical sensor, or mechanical issues? What about the tranny, transfer case, hubs, the brakes, chassis electrical, is this stuff pretty reliable or troublesome? I just would like to learn some stuff about these trucks.
I took it out and drove it, drivetrain and motor felt smooth-I punched it several times and it spun the new tires (cheap brand) off the line quite easily in 2wd and the truck went a bit sideways, lol. It's definitely slower than an '02 5.3 Tahoe Z71 4dr. my buddy has on the highway, but this 5.7 Vortec feels stronger off the line, lol. Probably had never been floored before, lol. 4wd takes about 10-20 seconds to engage, immediately disengages. It pulled a bit to the right driving down the road and the brakes stopped it straight but felt quite mushy (more so than my crappy brakes on my '97 Grand Prix GTP, which I didn't think was possible, lol). The front brakes look untouched. Just want some feedback is all. Thanks a bunch.
