Not again! I had this same problem on a '93 K2500 Suburban that I had. Damn scary. After a few close calls I disconnected the ABS. At that time I read that GM made some kind of deal with the government to ignore the safety issue on the full size trucks in return for recalling the S-10s or something for another safety issue.

Have also noticed that some of the US safety recalls do not make it to Canada. Depends on what the safety agencies decide to let them get away with. I see that this one only applies to certain states.

So far my '04 Av hasn't acted up. Lots of road salt used here though, so give it time. Maybe next year they will be adding '03 and '04s to the recall.

I nearly totaled my truck because of this! I lost brakes after hitting a curb going about 15mph and ended up hitting a tree stump. $10,000 in damages! They better replace my brakes!

I have not really noticed much of a problem. Should I have mine checked out?

I hope they are recalling the ebrake but my buddy who is a tech at the local dealership said that the ebrake recall is just for standard transmission applications. Im not sure what the details are with this one. Does anybody know?

Here's some info I read about the parking brake issue yesterday while looking up the ABS issue:

Nature of Defect:
3. PARKING BRAKE Recall Number: 05V161000
Dates Manufactured: N/A to N/A
Number of Vehicles Affected: 142585
Date Owners Notified On: N/A

Vehicle: 2001 GMC Sierra 1500
Defect Description:
ON CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS AND BUILT WITH EITHER PBR PARKING BRAKE SYSTEMS OR TRW PARKING BRAKE SYSTEMS, THE PARKING BRAKE FRICTION LININGS MAY WEAR TO AN EXTENT WHERE THE PARKING BRAKE CAN BECOME INEFFECTIVE IN IMMOBILIZING A PARKED VEHICLE.

Consequence of Defect:
IF THE PARKING BRAKE DOES NOT HOLD, UNINTENDED VEHICLE MOVEMENT COULD OCCUR, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

Corrective Action:
DEALERS WILL INSTALL A LOW-FORCE SPRING CLIP RETAINER FOR VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A PBR PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM. ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE TRW PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM, DEALERS WILL INSTALL A REDESIGNED PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED AN OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE FOR THIS CAMPAIGN. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438 OR GMC AT 1-866-996-9463.
This is a pretty neat page to bookmark if you wanna check out recalls and TSB's: LINK

The dealer shouldn't care that you installed a tuned PCM. I went to a GMC dealer for my truck cause the local Chevy dealer sucks *** and told them I needed a crank relearn done, they said ok and did it in the service drive, no charge, no write-up, nothing. Took about 2 minutes and I was out of there again.
