Default Gauge Cluster mileage...

Are the vehicle hours and mileage stored in the cluster like on an F-body or is it stored in the PCM?
I got a new Denali cluster but don't know if it will work in my Silverado. Well I know it will work, but will the mileage and hours show up correctly on my dash?

any and all help is appreciated.

Andy

The cluster will need programmed to read the mileage correctly. If you just plug it up, it will start at 0(if its new). As for it being stored, I think I heard mileage is stored in the BCM

Sorry, when I said New cluster I meant new to me. LOL

The cluster is out of a 03' Denali which I was told had about 50k on the odometer before it was totaled.

We at GM hide the actual vehicle milage in several diffrent componets...lol. Of course it's in the cluster. It can also be found in the PCM, the BCM and is also stored in the Radio or Entertainment unit.

If you're ever inspected by a GM agent ot a DMV agent, you'll be fu*cked, unless you have it properly programmed.

Don't let any one kid you, the milage on a full size truck is ONLY stored in the cluster. You can take that to the bank. I worked in a GMC dealer ship in 04 abd 05. This used to come up every now and again. Our 30 year tech would run a print out of the pcm and guess what no millage listed. or any where else for that matter. The cluster has its own module.

Have a good one,

Don

...ahhhh...mad little kid. I'm really not going to take an hour an half of my time (which we bill at $60.00 per hour) and print you a copy of all the Calibration Updates, that are uploaded into a PCM. Much less along with the BCM Calibration number and the Radio's latest flash.

Don, I'm glad you've seen the print out. Really....I am. You just haven't looked in the right places. Do you seriously...and I mean seriously think for one minute that GM, Ford or whoever ONLY relies on the milage being able to be tracked through just the Dash cluster? I mean seriously do you believe that they have only one means of checking the milage on any vehicle? Don't kid yourself dude....lol....
