Gas milage
#1
Hey guys I was wondering what kind of gas milage you folks with 5.3 tahoes are getting? My 2000 tahoe 4x2 with the 5.3 is only getting around 11-12 mpg in the city driving. I was wondering if everybodyelse is getting this kind of milage or better. It is bone stock. 134,000miles recent tune up. Thanks guys for any info

11-12 MPG sounds a bit low for city driving. Just curious.....how did you determine your MPG? Are you doing the math at each fill up or are you just reading the MPG display on your dash? Also, what size tires are on the Tahoe now? Are they the stock size?

I was doing the miles to the tank. trip miles fill up divide the miles by the gallons it takes to fill up. Everytime we have filled it up it comes between 11.13 -11.55 mpg all city driving. That was with stock wheels and tires and all. Now we have 22" wheels on it with a 305/45/22 I think that is the tire size. This last time it was average 11.30 mpg. with the new wheels on it. I would like to get around 14-15mpg in it but if i cant oh well it looks good. Thanks guys for the info and any new info

I used to get around 14 in the city, sometimes more; now I'm down to about 12-13, but I am going to change the plugs and O2 sensors this weekend. I will post results. I also cleaned my filter, cleaned MAF, put in a bottle of Techron, changed fuel filter, and cleaned the top end and TB... but none of that really helped, so hopefully plugs and O2 will. Also planning on getting a Wheatley tune very soon.

I have had a wait4me tune twice, and the first time I had the tune, I did not really even notice a difference from stock. I also, burned up clutches in my tranny due to the tune (too much TM removed) from daily driving, no racing or abusing it. Do a search on here as there are a few discussions of people voicing their opinion on the different tunes... though it seems Wheatley and Nelson are the two most popular and most praised.

Hmmm. It's strange that you are getting the same mileage with your 22's compared to the stock wheels/tires. Bigger tires/wheels usually drop your mileage a bit. Did you tune your PCM to compensate for the new tire size diameter? If not, your speedometer will be wrong....which means your odometer is wrong and therefore the MPG calculation is incorrect.
