Maybe some good news... It looks like there is a $250 deductable on my stuff. As long as there isn't a limit on the claim, I might come out on top with this one.

Yep! Anything that's stolen out of your car that's not car related material will be covered by your Home Owners insurance if you own a home. I've had to put in two claims about a week apart when our neighborhood had a rash of break in's, they hit my son's and wife's car. We've lived here 15 years and only had the one incident, normally very quiet.

Sucks that you had to deal with that. We had our Denali broken into a few years ago when we were staying at a hotel. Broke the front-passenger window and crawled in, ripped off the headrests and took out the screens, pulled off the dash and got the screen/cd player out, stole the ps2 from under the rear seats, and ripped up all the leather from the broken glass and them stepping all over them. Alarm never even went off. There were 2 other cars that were broken into, and a lady who was parked a few spaces down from us who was broken into as well. They took her luggage out and looked through it, then threw it down the enbankment since they thought there was nothing there, when she had about $4000 worth of jewlery (she was going to her daughter's wedding and they were her gifts), so she got lucky. Thankfully the insurance covered the replacement, and a better alarm was installed.

Sorry to hear about it Richard. They'll get what's coming to them - hopefully.

If you catch someone breaking into your car in Texas, can't you shoot them?
Texas use of force law says you may use deadly force if someone is in the act of stealing a tangable item. Basicly if you see someone stealing something removable from you or others you may use deadly force as long as your intentions are not to injure. It's crazy but it's true. I know because I aced this part of the police academy. You will be arrested but when you go before the judge he will release you if you have a lawyer worth a ****.

So why do you keep so much stuff in your truck? And is 1 laptop not good enough?

Hopefully your insurance company doesn't use every trick in the book to deny claim. They usually always do.
