I had a professor once say that its not the severity of the punishment for a crime, but the certainty that gets results. If you know you aren't going to get caught, then there is no incentive to stop.

Any of you remember that young punk (US citizen) that got caught vandalizing cars in Singapore 10 years ago? They sentenced him to 6 lashes with a rattan cane. Basically beat his a$$ till he bled and couldn't walk. Caused a big stink over here. In singapore there is very little street crime. Basically, you break the law, even misdemenors, you are going to pay for it. Anyone who fires a gun while committing a crime gets the death penalty whether or not the bullet killed, injured or even hit anyone.

Of course it helps. The thiefs don't stop stealing, but they feel better about themselves when they do steal.

If you catch someone breaking into your car in Texas, can't you shoot them?

As long as its on your property, and even if it isnt, just pull them onto your property and you're good to go.

That pisses me off to no end. I'm sorry to hear about everything.

If it happened to me, I'd go back to the same place and BAIT people.

Anyone ever hear the story about the sportbike guys in the UK? Motorcycle theft over there is pretty bad, and there were a lot of bikes getting picked off in this one neightborhood. A few friends got together... they would park a bike on a side street or alley. They'd wait nearby in a plumbers van, with bats and other blunt objects. If anyone came over trying to take the bike, they all jumped out, beat the **** out of the people/person, and split.

Rumor has it, that the cops were well aware of what these guys were doing, and did very little to stop them.

Yep I remember that, all the liberals in this country went ape ****, they had never heard of such a thing. They even went to the Singapore government to try and intervine, the Singapore government basically said "screw you' and beat his *** anyway. I was saying right on, I bet he didn't vandilize any more cars in Singapore either.

Works for me! The every day law abiding citizens wouldn't have to worry about the tough laws, only the crooks would and it's funny, the crooks would be the ones complaining about the tough laws. It's easy to me "don't do the crime if you don't want to suffer the consequences if you get caught". It's that simple!
