Default Foam under intake? What for?

I noticed it under my intake.
Is this just to reduce engine noise or to keep debris out.
What gives?

Mine didn't have foam under the intake, and I bought it new so it never had it. What does it look like? Are you talking about the part that goes in to the fenderwell?

Its to keep crap from collecting in the valley where ur knock sensors are...keeps out large things but not water...mine got water in them and eventually rusted out the knock sensors...i recommend u keep them there if u like to playing in the water or mudd....i got rid of mine and sealed up the knock sensor covers with some silicone

I posted this same question a while back and no one seems to know for sure but the best answer I heard was to keep the knock sensors isolated from outside sounds.
