The key to making a VSC last is in the wiring. The connectors need to be tight and secured firm to something very near the VSC so there is no vibration in the wires at all. The VSC needs also to be mounted in an area that cannot be hit with salted water. What happens most is the wires vibrate which stresses the butt connectors and makes them loose. The lack of contact resists the flow of power (which is a LOT) and heats it up to the point the ends of the wire insulation melts and the solder holding the terminal in the PCB finally melts too. I am very familiar with this problem and can confirm that it has affected a large number of people. Unfortunately there is a widely circulated misconception that the VSC cannot handle the power. The problem is the connecting wires.
I've personally had my VSC since the day they hit the market. My original installation included nylon wire ties and wire loom to secure all the wiring from any movement. This should be done for ANY electrical device in an automotive application. I have had no problems at all with mine. It's been years.

 

I think i'm going with nelsons harness and the pcm tune.I'm always deep in the woods hunting or fishing and dont need to have a VSC burn up on me!! I'm allready aware of the rely issues with the nelson harness.I plan on changing them out.

 

also how much of a MPG increase will the e-fans get ?? i'm only getting about 11 or so now with a light foot.

 

I had the new style one with the 4 heatsinks at the top and running the FAL fans on my old truck and I still burnt the thing up. Whats worse is that it didn't even pop the fuse, so my motors burned up too.

 

yeah mine tried to burn the motors but the fal fuse actually melted apart before it popped! what a POS

 

I have a VSC I can sell you for $20 shipped. Including the fuse holder. Never had an issue with this VSC.

Mine took a dump recently as well...for good this time...
has crapped out a few times before, but was always able to get it running again...
as JamesB stated...its all in the wiring...the power and ground male spades on mine have completely pulled out of the VSC now...
I just bought a Nelson harness and was curious if anyone has seen a detailed write-up on its installation using the Flex-A-Lite dual fans?
Everything is pretty clear in the instructions on Nelson's website…except wiring to the fans themselves.
