fixed my broken instrument cluster..now i can't sell or trade in!
hey guys here's the deal. i have a '03 gmc sierra and as you know, the clusters on the '03-'04's have faulty steppers. i bought a used working cluster a year ago which had low miles (i saved the exact #) and replaced it. everything works now but the odometer shows low miles. before i replaced it, i saved all the numbers (miles and time) on the new and old odometer so that i can calculate the exact number of miles that i have for the future. anyways the future is now and i wanted to get my car appraised at a carmax. i told carmax about the cluster and they wanted nothing to do with my truck and said they'd give me only $1500 cuz of the odometer issue. i understand that no one wants to buy a truck or car not knowing the true mileage. anyways, is there anything i can do to get my truck's odometer to read the exact mileage? i need to sell this truck. please help.

Dealer can only program a brand new cluster one time after they are set there is no changing them. The only thing you can do is find one in a reasonable mileage range drop it in and dont say a damm thing. None of the computers store the mileage except for the cluster. If you had it inspected with the low mileage cluster you are still fucked because the lower mileage will appear in dmv records. I screwedup a brand new cluster programming it for a customers truck it had 45,000 and I slipped and gave it 455,000 miles had to reorder a new cluster and I ate that one.

I would run a car-fax report on your VIN, see what the last reported mileage was, then go buy a used cluster with fair amount of mileage more then the last report. When you try to sell it, keep your mouth shut and don't say a word.
Car Max is a rip off. They say they don't sell repaired wrecks, but they do. They also say they don't sell modified vehicles, but go walk the lot and see what you will find. Start asking people in the salvage industry, most likely you will find someone that buys the old damaged car parts from the car max body shop.
They offered me $500 for a Jeep Cherokee I had. I sold it on craigslist for $3500 within the week.
