Default Exhaust popping under load

At around 1800 to maybe 2500 rpm, I have this awful sounding popping from my exhaust, not sure if it's due to extremely easily flowing exhaust air, or what. Basically my truck sounds like an automatic machine gun going off as I accelerate through this rpm gap. I have 1 7/8 in. LT, 3in. collector, gutted high flow cats (stupid thing to pay for them and then gut them, I know) to 3in. X-pipe to two Carven-R mufflers dumped over the axle (all 3in. piping), and a TSP cam, can give specs if necessary. It's not like a backfire, because I'm not letting rpms pull down by leaving in gear. I just want to know what's causing this sound, is it just that I'm almost running a straight pipe? Do I need to add some restriction to stop this? Just trying to get rid of this awful sounding rasping wet fart scream. Thanks

You created your issue when you gutted the cats.

Replace the cats, don't gut them or put in a resonator before the muffler.

Okay, thanks. It did make the sound before, but not anywhere near as bad, but thanks for advice. Any resonator you might recommend by chance?

A vibrant ultra quiet resonator is a great buy.

I installed one on my old Sierra with catless y-pipe and magnaflow muffler. It took away like 90% of the rasp and drone. Couldn't hear anything on the freeway anymore.

That sounds hilarious, I think you should keep it.

I have to agree with it's in the tune. Not the exhaust or cats being gutted.
