I do plugs every 15k and wires every 30k.

I change mine every 30K, but I'm a obsessive compulsive sumbitch about **** like that. But you can change them every 50 to 65 K

I guess I will try replacing the spark plugs. I am very **** about my truck which is why this is bothering me so much. I do have the pinging on start up because of the initial lack of oil, but I do check the levels periodically and they are ok. I think it might be the detonation issue because I can still hear a pinging when I floor it. It doesn't sound like an exhaust leak because I have had many friends that had them b/c of bad gaskets and what not. I guess we will see

What would upgrading to MSD ignition do???

Maybe run a can of BG 44K through the fuel system to clean everything...even the intake valves. It's supposed to really work well.

I'd defintely change the plugs because of the mileage although it might not help with the noise.
