Default electrical problem with fans

Well the flex a lite kit has been on my truck for about 3 weeks and working fine.today they weren't working so I checked out the wiring and I looked and I found a problem. The negative wire that goes directy from the battery to the flex a lite vsc box looked like it melted a little. Don't have a clue what happened so any input is apprieciated. Also I think something is wrong with my voltage regulator and the gauge jumps badly sometimes.could this have something to do with the slightly melted wire?

I've had my Flex-A-Lites for over 2 years now (with the same VSC) and never had an issue. The melted negative cable indicates a high current condition, most likely from a bad/loose connection. Check to make sure the connection is tight. Where is the black negative cable from the VSC going to and what gauge size is it? I hooked my black wire to the alternator bracket and just made sure the connection was tight. BTW, what kind of truck do you have and what year is it?

I had the VSC for about a year until it melted. Either make your own PCM controlled harness or buy a harness from somewhere (Nelson). The VSC is is not worth the trouble no matter how good your connections are. I have personally seen a half dozen fail and if you search the internet, you will find it is a common theme. I wouldn't risk it.

Its a 02 Chevy silverado. I ran the negative wire off the vsc box to the negative terminal on the battery. I unplugged the wire off the box and twisted it around a little and it started working again. Thanx for the input guys

trust and believe that didnt "fix" the problem, only patched it. if its pulling enough current to melt the wire like that, its just asking for electrical fire. sorry if i sounded negative.

The FAL VSC is very sensitive to wire termination quality. I have installed several and went through a learning curve on mine at first learning the hard way.

I have since installed 4 on 2500 HD trucks that are still running after 3+ years.

Going to the other harnesses is nicer but you can make the FAL VSC do well.

Make sure all your crimps and connections are tight and done correctly.
Make sure all your push on connections are a firm fit. You may have to gently press the females so they take a little effort to push on. Not too much as to damage the male spade pressing it into the VSC. If you get one to fit too tight it can pull the spade out of the VSC when you need to remove it. Take care. Just get a good positive fit.
A BIG heavy duty fuse holder. If you have the older one that has a rubber cap ditch it.

Seal the adjustment hole. I used a piece of foil duct tape.
