E-fan conversion + true ram air setup...possible?

just curious... i've got the AirAid filter & tube (yeah, yeah... i know
)
do you think it's possible to combine the modded stock box idea with the AirAid filter?
ps - good luck with the build!

Is the Airaid filter one of the bolt on to MAF meter style? I think it is?
I would think you'd be able to modify the stock airbox's outlet (where the MAF meter would normally be anyway)...maybe open it up some to allow the clamp-on filter to be placed inside the box?
I thought I read about someone doing just that, but it's been a while ago.

yeah. the tube just replaces the stock tube & the filter/shield just replaces the stock filter/box. it's got a funnel-thingy that connects to the MAF on one side & flares out to 6" as it goes through the shield & the filter (with the 6" opening) clamps over that
not mine, but same setup

wow! Can't believe they use such a huge filter knowing that the tube itself is damn near flat right before the throttle body. From what you say, I'd say as long as the filter could physically fit inside of the stock airbox, you could make it work.
You could always make sure the "box" with your setup is as sealed to the hood (and away from the engine heat) as it can be, and open up (or remove) the stock airbox's mounting plate, or whatever it's called that's below the stock airbox for more airflow.
If this link works, the pics show how "open" mine is.

I have plenty of 4" exhaust pipe to use as my straight tube from elbow to MAF meter, although I may use PVC

p.s. PM reply coming, since I am sure you do not want me to address that publicly.

Some people will never understand that you don't always have to do what everyone else does. I think he's just upset that he paid $300 for an AEM air intake setup that my free one will equal or surpass...guess I can't blame him for being upset about that.

Got my "ghetto" intake tube setup buttoned up today. Turned out pretty nice IMHO. Cost was minimal since I already had clamps, 90° elbow and 4" tubing.
BIG THANKS to Gordy M for info about radiator hose clearance!
For anyone who wants to mimic the setup, obviously you have to have an electric fan conversion.
Parts used:
One 90° 4" rubber connector
One 3.5" sleeve (1" wide for MAF meter)
One 4" straight rubber connector
One foot of 4" exhaust tubing
can of your favorite spray paint (I used silver metallic since it reflects heat, or should, lol)
Four 4" hose clamps
Stock radiator hose is re-used, but reversed from it's stock configuration. Plan on adding 1 quart or more of coolant unless you can pop that hose off and back on very fast, LOL.
I also slightly tweaked the airbox sideway so that intake tube was a straight shot from MAF to TB connector. I have $20 total invested.

im the guy but the puddle story came from a punk little kid, you mis interpreted it from what others said
i speak from experience, i voiced my opinion and well you see who didnt like it,lol i guess you have to be a jack hole to handle 20 million dollar pieces of equipment right?
my local hardware stores dont carry 4"pvc, you can get aluminum peices for pretty cheap, then weld them up or steel
i just hate ABS intakes, they look like crap, its one thing to be free and temporary but how many laughs would you get
how much can you actually improve the intake ?
duh, any intake would do the same, even without one

This is my setup and I love it.

It was a bit pricey but damn it looks good!
