Default dreaded gas smell

I haven't had much time to mess with my truck due to school and work but there is a gas smell around the filler neck. The cap looks fine and I have no evap codes being thrown at all or any hesitation while driving. Also no fuel on the ground.

The truck has the awesome rocker rot. and a few small rust spots on the bed next to the filler door. Anyone have a starting point of what i should look for?

Truck info? Test your gas cap with a vacuum test. Some auto parts store have the testers. They look like a coolant system tester. Inspect your rubber filler neck hoses and make sure the clamps are tight. I saw some where on the forum another member had a severely corroded filler neck tube also. But its strange you do not have a CEL. Does your CEL come on when you turn the ignition key on without starting the engine?

Its an 01 Silverado ext cab 4wd. 5.3L 4l60.....

Check engine light is working fine comes on with every key on and i have set the cel a few times with EFILive to remember to turn setting back on.

I will take a look at the filler neck, you can smell it real bad but you figure it would set a small or gross leak cel. I have had an older truck that the fuel pump housing rusted on top, but in this truck its a plastic housing right?
