Decided to race the BIG BEAST
#1
Well me and my dad decided that we would take his 2001 1500 HD Crew Cab 6.0L to the track tonight. Well the truck according to a magazine that tested one just like it weighs about 6,400 lbs which is about right. Anyways for the best times for each category. Now remember this is a 48 yr old guy driving.
Reaction - .506
60 ft - 2.442
1/4 ET - 16.983
1/4 Trap speed - 82.57
As you can tell we didn't really have a competable speed so as far as pure racing our one kill was a '64 Mustang. I think that we officially have the slowest truck on this site (atleast out of the ones that run properly). Now I just need to convince him to mod it but I'd rather the money go towards the '72. Anyways maybe it'll be back to the track next weekend for some more runs. Oh and I'm up for competition for a slower truck on here. Oh and no like beaters in it I mean a truck that you would maybe take to a show.

16.9 isn't the greatest, but I am too embaressed at my Z71's speed to even run it.
I think my truck runs pretty close to that too...so don't feel bad.
That is my fault for putting on oversized tires lowering my gear ratios

does a 1500HD really weigh 800lbs more than a ECSB 2500 ??....and is that enough weight to cause the 1.6 second/9mph disparity between my time and his ??
the .506 reaction isn't super but it certainly isn't the worst reaction time ever, and the 2.4 60 ft is a little on the slow side but still not as bad as could be.....did he lift off at the shift points to avoid TM and the delayed shift or did he hold it hard the whole way and run into the wall between 1-2 and 2-3 ??, not lifting and hitting the TM might explain the higher than expected ET a little. was there alot of tire spin off the line ??, that might explain the 2.4 60 ft too
like goshawk23 said, it good to just get to the track and get a baseline time...it's alot more than most people do

Every hundred pounds is approximatley a tenth of a second. Oh and you say that a .506 isn't that great of a reaction time? That's only 6 thousandths off of a perfect light. You're probably thinking of a pro tree which is a .400 as a perfect light. There wasn't much tire spin because it's pretty hard to get a 6,400 lbs truck with traction control and 8ply tires to lose traction. My dad thinks that if he would have put it in 3rd that it would have helped a little because right before he crossed the line it would shift into overdrive. I want to try and get him to take it again and do that and also launch in 4wd.

I guess my sarcasm doesn't come across well in print
, I was VERY impressed with both the light and the 60 ft....especially for a middle aged guy who doesn't race driving a 6400 lb barge, I'm pretty certain I couldn't cut a .506 light anymore
I am curious as to why the truck is shifting into OD before the line.....I can hit the speed limiter in 3rd (98 mph) at only 4500 rpm's, all of our trucks have 1.00:1 3rd gears (4l60 or 4l80) so he should be able to do the same (he would have to have like 205/75-16's to hit the shiftpoint before the line)

Well he said that the .506 light was luck but he could run a .600 light easily without it being luck so he could probably run between a .500 and a .600. As far as hitting the shift point before the line I don't know exactley why it does but he said that we can take it back hopefully sometime soon and he's gunna let me drive it. When I run it I will put it in 3rd to run it and see if it improves. He said that it was shifting on him like right at the line it wasn't very far before it or anything.
