I HAVE NEVER HEARD A TRUE ANSWER ON THIS ONE YET. I HAVE A SET 36 INCH TIRES ON MY TRUCK. WITH THAT SIZE OF TIRE DID MY RWHP CHANGE GOING FROM A 4.10 GEAR TO A 4.88 GEAR. I HAVE HEARD SEVERAL DEFERENT OPINIONS ON THIS SUBJECTBUT NEVER TALKED TO ANYONE WHO CAN GIVE ME A STRAIT ANSWER. SOME GUYS SAY THAT IT DONT CHANGE ANYTHING ON A EDDYCURRENT DYNO BUT ON A DYNOJET IT MAKES A BIG DEFERENCE. MAYBE YOU GUYS CAN GIVE ME THE REAL 411. GO AHEAD VOICE SOME OPINIONS.

Not sure about the whole deal there ... It was kinda hard to read.
I'll give you a tip though, turn off caps lock. I would rather read something in all lower case than all caps. I have a feeling the rest of the guys here would feel the same.
I'm gonna move this to the lounge too, it might get a better response there.

Actually there is a TON of info on this subject. Much of it is too technical for my simple mind but if you do a search in the drivetrain section you should be able to find some. I have read numerous threads on this in LS1Tech since I started reading back in 00'.
In essense though the general opinion was that numercially higher gear ratios do effect power negatively. Something to do with frictional loss and a bunch of other junk. But I blieve some peopl ein those threads went as far as to prove it did show a HP loss on the dyno. Now that being said, the advantage a lower gear set gives you in shear acceleration makes up for the paltry loss of HP on the dyno. You're always gonna get your best times when you can cross the line near peak power even if you have to suffer a tiny loss from a lower gearset.
Tire and gear size effect more than just how quickly and engine goes through it's RPM range. The weight of a tire/rim combo can affect the effective HP of the car just as sticky or underinflated tires can add frictional losses which is also what effects HP with gear changes I am lead to believe. Please correct me if I am wrong though. I am definately not an expert. LOL
