Default Daytime running lights

Mine went out on me, and now the the headlights are always on,and I dont know how to turn the headlights off. Can this be caused by the DRL's? Theere some special way I can turn the headlights off?

turn your headlight switch on and off three times, thats what turned the auto matic headlights off on my 99 s-10 ZR-2. or try to hit the dome button three times, one of them should work, BTW, replace your DRL bulbs!

do you have anything on your dash? thats where the eye is that decided if its dark or not. if its covered your drl's will turn off and the heads will come on.

Sounds like the eye is messed up.

Sounds like the DRL's aren't coming on because the BCM thinks it's dark and is turning the headlights on. Like TXsilverado said, make sure that nothing's covering the photodiode making the bcm think it's dark. If not, the photodiode may have gone bad (open). If that's the case, you can replace the photodiode, or bypass it with a resistor or led, but you will lose your automatic headlight function. (I did this to mine purposely).

BTW, the on-off dome lt override trick doesn't work on 99 Silverado's...I think that feature came around in 00.

When all else fails look in the owners manual to see how to turn off the auto function. I'm not being sarcastic here, when I got my 2000 used I didn't know it had the auto on headlights, didn't even know it was available. Fortunately the truck came with a manual. I've used it a lot.

You can turn off the auto function on the '99's by engaging the parking brake 1 click. Its not enough to set the brake but does turn off the drl's and overrides the headlight function.
