I think some guys just take the bed off instead of dropping the gas tank. Seems like the easier way to go if you have some help and the bed isn't too heavy. If the sending unit in a truck is anything like one in a boat it should be a piece of cake from there.

Mine has been crazy for over a year now. I'm a broke/lazy student, so it's gonna stay that way for awhile.

Mine is starting to get real jittery, but nothing to write home about. However on my dad's old truck, 2001 Sierra, it was doing exactly what you guys described yours is doing. Fortunate for him it was still under warranty, but they replaced the sender and all was well. My sister owns the truck now and she's had no issues with it.

I've been having this problem for about 2 yrs on a 2001 Silverado. Since the signal goes from the sending unit to the PCM then to the gauge, I was wondering if anyone with this condition has experienced a decrease in gas mileage? I'll probably prop up one side of the bed to do the work.

So this sound like a sending unit to ya'll??? Has anyone replaced it.
Thats what mine does. Cheapest I've been able to find the fuel pump with everything is about $120 on ebay. It will get fixed one of these days, till then I'll just keep track of my mileage

Dang my new 06 sounds similar. I had a little more than a 1/4 tank left and I got on it pretty hard for a few seconds last night and it dropped past empty and my light came on. When I started her back up this morning it was right back to 1/4 tank.....ugh...please don't tell me I have to take her in already for warranty work.
