Default Consuming Oil

I have a 2004 yukon xl with a 5.3L and it is consuming enough oil to hit the low oil sensor. It does this even bofore the 5000 mile mark. What is the deal it doesn't leak a drop. PCV blowby or is it the rings? The truck only has 75,000 miles on it.

Any insight would be appreciated...

my buddy has had a 5.3 sierra for 9 years going on 10.
He says it's used a quart and sometime two between oil changes since the day He brought it home

He runs relatively thin synthetic probally 15-30
mobil 1 since new
I always tell my freinds ambient temp determines viscosity!.

anyhow, it's common for these 5.3's to use oil between changes. perhaps try a thicker viscosity, esopecially if the weather has been on the hot side as of late

How far are you going on oil changes? Depending on what oil you are using 5000 miles should be max. And how long?

I'd bet it's the PCV system. Have him pull the TB off and look in the intake for oil.

Definitely some oil in the intake. What gives? Would a catch can help? I thought they were only necessary on forced induction motors. I use Mobil 1 5w30 I will try 10w30 next oil change since it is pretty hot here in SoCal in the summertime. I know 5000 is a lot between oil changes but it is my wifes car and it really doesn't get beat on or anything.
