Arrow Colorado and Canyon Question

Just looking for some input. I'm about to retire the 'ol Blue pickup, and I've been looking at crew-cab Canyon and Colorado pickups. I'm not a 4x4 guy. Not into off-roading, so I'm strictly looking at the RWD crew cabs. How is the economy on the I5 motors? Currently with my ECSB Chevy 5.7L, I'm getting 14 to 17mpg in city driving and 18 to 22mpg on the highway depending on how liberal with the gas pedal I get. I don't ever tow anything, but I do use the bed for hauling a few things. Dogs/guitar and bass amps and cabinets/drums. I'm just trying to figure out if I can get away with switching to a smaller pickup and if the economy is there on these trucks. I don't expect 35mpg in the city from any truck, but I would think the economy is significantly better. I also have a family of 4. Can an adult fit reasonably comfortably in the rear seat on these trucks? Thanks for the input.

wait a bit and get the colorado/canyon with the 5.3. As far as the rear seats for 4 adults go for the crew, extended cab is strictly kids on longer distance trips

My dad has a 2007 RCSB 2WD Colorado with the I5 engine and 4-speed auto. He drives it like an old man (as he should, lol) and only gets 16 MPG in the city. He hasn't been on any long highway trips with it but he's guessing low 20's for mileage on the highway. He loves the truck but constantly complains about the low mileage. I don't blame him because my truck gets the same mileage and it has a 5.3 Oh FWIW....the I5 in the 2004-2006 Colorados was a 3.5 litre. The I5 in 2007-2008 is a 3.7 litre and therefore has more HP and TQ. I don't know if the mileage suffered because of this but I doubt it. I can't really comment on the room in the crew cab Colorados/Canyons. I remember looking at the inside of a crew cab once and I wasn't impressed on the room. I am 6' 3" though...
